Joining Dingwall Amateur Swimming Club
Dingwall Amateur Swimming Club welcomes swimmers who are keen to develop their skills, enjoy structured training, and be part of a positive team environment.
Entry to the club is managed through a Try Out to ensure swimmers are placed in a squad that best supports their stage of development.
Club Try Outs
We host Club Try Outs at least twice each year, typically:
- June
- November
These sessions allow the coaching team to assess swimmers’ technique, confidence, and readiness for club training in a supportive environment.
Swimmers attending Club Try Outs are required to pay a £10 administration fee. This helps cover the costs associated with assessments and onboarding and is offset against initial membership fees for swimmers who join the club.
Details of upcoming Try Outs are shared through the website, club communications, and social media.
Joining Outside Try Outs
Where capacity allows, swimmers may be considered for assessment at other points in the year. Availability depends on squad space and the swimmer’s experience and readiness.
Families are encouraged to contact the club to discuss individual circumstances.
Assessment and Placement
All swimmers joining Dingwall ASC will take part in an assessment led by the coaching team. This allows us to:
- Understand the swimmer’s current skill level
- Identify an appropriate squad placement
- Ensure the training environment is a good fit
Placement is based on ability, technique, and readiness, not age alone.
Squad Movement and Progression
Squad placement is reviewed regularly to ensure each swimmer is training in an environment that best supports their development, wellbeing and individual goals. Progression is based on individual readiness and is always discussed directly with swimmers and parents by the coaching team.

The Head Coach will communicate directly with swimmers and parents about any potential changes well in advance, ensuring clarity and support for every decision.
