Competitions
Competition at Dingwall ASC
Dingwall Amateur Swimming Club is a competitive swimming club, and competition plays an important role in swimmer development. Competing allows swimmers to apply their training, gain experience, build confidence, and learn to race as part of a team.
Each season, the club produces a fixture list outlining the competitions we intend to attend. These competitions are selected by the Head Coach to provide appropriate opportunities for swimmers across all squads. The fixture list is a working document and may be updated during the season.
Selection for Competitions
Selection for competitions is made at the discretion of the Head Coach, from all eligible club members. While performance times are an important factor, selection is based on a wider range of considerations to support swimmer welfare and long-term development.
These may include:
- Swimmer wellbeing, fitness, and current form
- Training attendance, attitude, and reliability
- Suitability of the competition level
- Event rules, age restrictions, and recovery requirements
Not all swimmers will be selected for every competition. This ensures opportunities are shared fairly and swimmers compete at a level appropriate to their stage of development.
Team and Relay Selection
Team and relay selections are determined by the Head Coach and coaching staff. Decisions are made with both individual development and overall team performance in mind, while considering recovery time, race order, and the demands of the competition.
Where possible, swimmers selected for competitions will normally be entered for more than one event.
Expectations at Competitions
When attending competitions, swimmers are expected to:
- Remain poolside with the team
- Follow instructions from coaching staff
- Behave responsibly and respectfully
- Represent Dingwall ASC positively
For safeguarding and team management reasons, swimmers are not permitted to sit with parents in the spectator area during competitions.
Swimmers are not permitted to enter competitions outside of the club fixture list unless agreed in advance by the Head Coach.
Club Events and Internal Competitions
In addition to external competitions, Dingwall ASC runs a number of internal club events each year. These events are an important part of club life, supporting confidence, participation, and team spirit.
Annual Club Championships
Our Club Championships are held annually, usually in September or October. This event provides swimmers across the club with the opportunity to race in a structured competitive environment and marks an important point in the swimming season. Performances from the Club Championships may contribute to club records, awards, and season goals.
Team Games
Team Games are typically held twice per year and focus on teamwork, participation, and enjoyment. Swimmers are placed into mixed teams and take part in a variety of races and challenges. These events celebrate effort, engagement, and club spirit rather than results alone.
Club Awards
The club celebrates swimmer achievements, effort, and commitment through an Annual Club Awards Night. This event recognises progress, sportsmanship, and contributions to the club across the season and is an important opportunity to celebrate the wider Dingwall ASC community.
Further information about the Awards Night is shared with members through club communications.
