Squads

Dingwall Amateur Swimming Club introduced squads in January 2017 which will be reviewed periodically and updated appropriately.

The Club has four squads that are graded by strict performance criteria by the Head Coach. The Squads at Dingwall ASC are – Development Squad, C Squad, B Squad and A Squad each aimed at different stages of a swimmer’s development and ambition.

Progression through the squads is based on a swimmer’s attitude, effort and attendance at training and meets as well as technical ability and perceived potential. There are also time targets set by the Coaches for each squad.

Please Note: Movement between squads is at the discretion of the Head Coach.

Development Squad

Thursday night: 6:30pm – 7:15pm

This is one of our Entry level squads.

The emphasis in this squad is to develop swimmers technique and begin to develop skills such as diving, turns and streamlining. Swimmers in this stage will have completed Learn to Swim Level 7.

To move up to C Squad your coach will assess you on all of the above and monitor your technical ability across all four strokes.

C Squad –

Thursday night: 7:15pm, – 8:15pm

This is our second entry level squad. Swimmers who show a better understanding of technique may be eligible to enter the C Squad and bypass the Development Squad. This will be at the discretion of the Head Coach.

Competition is a measure of improvement and swimmers in this squad will be encouraged to attend Club Time Trials. Swimmers in this squad will be also be encouraged to take part in the Annual Club Championships and other events.

Movement to B Squad will depend on attendance and commitment levels, technical ability and work ethic.

B Squad

Friday night: 7:00pm – 8:00pm

Sunday morning: 10:00am – 11:00am

This squad trains for two hours a week, however we are always looking at ways to increase pool time for all of our squads. Swimmers in this squad will be training at a higher level than the C Squad and will start to understand terminology used in swimming and use more advance drills.

Swimmers in this squad will be encouraged to attend Club Time Trials and take part in the Annual Club Championships and other meets.

Transfer to the A Squad will depend on attendance levels, commitment to swimming, being mentally ready to take the next step up and may also depend on times

A Squad

Tuesday night: 6:30pm – 7:30pm

Sunday morning: 9:00am – 10:30am

This squad is the top squad in Dingwall ASC. Swimmers in this squad are usually between the ages of 14 and 17 however we do have some younger swimmers in this squad. This is dependent on technical ability, attendance and perceived potential.

The training programme for this squad will Individual Medley based to ensure athletes are all-round swimmers capable of all events. Swimmers will be expected to have a more mature approach to their training and their behaviour in the pool should be exemplary.

Swimmers will be introduced to Goal Setting in this Squad, which will involve a discussion with the Head Coach to ensure goals are appropriate for each swimmer.

Swimmers in this squad will be encouraged to take part in the Annual Club Championships and other events, at the discretion of the Head Coach.
